Bloodtwig Dogwood 'Cornus sanguinea'

Bloodtwig Dogwood is a striking deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant crimson winter stems that transform your garden into a living landscape feature. This hardy cultivar of Cornus sanguinea thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to most soil types, making it an ideal choice for Canadian gardens.

Standing 2–3 metres tall at maturity, this vigorous grower produces small white flowers in late spring followed by dark berries that attract wildlife. The deep green foliage turns rich burgundy in autumn before dropping to reveal the brilliant red branches underneath—the true showstopper from late fall through early spring.

Perfect for hedging, mixed borders, or as a standalone specimen, Bloodtwig Dogwood is low-maintenance once established and requires minimal pruning. For best stem colour, prune hard in early spring. This native-friendly shrub is cold-hardy to zone 4 and adds year-round visual interest to any garden design.

Plant in moist, well-draining soil and water regularly during establishment. Attracts birds and pollinators while providing winter shelter and food sources.
